One of the Chinees books I like to read is called "Tao Da Ching" it talks about leading without leading. The more rules you have the more rule breakers you'll have.

I've run this type of business for years and works well.

Fair suggestions, appreciate you! Staying cool is always a wonderful attitude that can leverage all your things, say personal or business. Also, I have seen some people/boss who interfere even after they trained and delegated responsibility which also isn't a good approach.

Your point is fair, but this post wasn't intended lament against bad bosses. It was a friendly reminder to bosses that's it's okay to be human, and it's imperative to treat their employees like humans. Entrepreneurship could be the answer for a handful of people, but it's certainly not the solution for everyone.

Well, there's always another way! Work for yourself is one, do investing till you retire, follow your passions no matter the challenges! It all depends on the person, his commitment to his own personal development and countless other factors! Me? I could never work for someone else. In my vocabulary, I am THE boss! That's just one part of entrepreneurship.

Great point re: everyone has to answer to someone Jake. I think part of the frustration comes when a boss deliberately abuses their authority because for lack of a better term “they get off on it.”

And I agree re: a great boss bringing out your passion for the work. What % of bosses do you think do that successfully? I’d venture that if you’re capable of doing it most days you’re in a league of your own.

I would wager to say most people reading your blog answer to somebody, even if they are also a boss. It may be an internal boss higher than them, stake holders or clients, but not many people have the outright freedom to do and say what they want. I think everybody would be better served to follow some of these tenets.

I think the greatest boss in the world is one that brings out your passion for the work. If he/she can get you to stop thinking about the chain of command, the fact that what you're doing is a JOB and get you to tap into meaning behind what you're doing then they've got my vote as a good boss.
